Bug Catcher

2021
Nickel, Fine Silver, and Watch Crystal
2.5” x 2”

Through this piece I want to elevate the practice of catching bugs and releasing them outdoors. I have always been fascinated with insects and other small creatures. This bug catcher is intended to be used in a similar way to how one might use a cup with a piece of paper to catch a spider or other bug inside to take it outside. On the outer surface of the nickel silver body of the catcher, I used sand and bead blasting to create a three tone design depicting grass, an ant, a butterfly, a moth, a ladybug, and a beetle. On the top, an old watch crystal in a hand sawn fine silver bezel setting creates the viewing hole to observe the bug once it is caught.
